Jiahhui Xia is a human and medical geneticist, pioneer of modern human and medical genetics in China, founder of Chinese clinical genetics, founder of the State Key Laboratory of Medical Genetics, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and professor and doctoral supervisor of Central South University. In 1961, Xia Jiahui graduated from the Department of Biology of Hunan Normal University and entered the teaching and research office of Biology of Hunan Medical College. From 1978 to 1981, he served as the Department of Biology deputy director at Hunan Medical College. In 1984, he established the State Key Laboratory of Medical Genetics. In 1985, he worked as a visiting scholar at the University of Pittsburgh for half a year; He joined the Communist Party of China in 1986. Director of Hunan Medical College from 1987 to 2009; From 1991 to 2005, he was the Deputy Director of the State Key Laboratory of Medical Genetics. He was elected a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering in 1999. In 2002, he served as the director of the Academic Committee of the National Life Science and Technology Personnel Training Base. Dean of School of Biological Science and Technology, Central South University from 2004 to 2006; Hunan Jiahui Genetic Hospital was established in 2012. Xia Jiahui mainly engaged in the research of modern human and medical genetics. In 1976, he wrote the first textbook on Medical Genetics in China.
